T. K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara, affiliated to the University of Kerala was established in memory of the great freedom fighter, philosopher, humanist and social reformer, Deshabhimani T. K. Madhavan, by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. The slogan that was raised by T.K. Madhavan, guided by the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, was ― Organize and be Strong. Guru’s clarion call to - liberate through education and be strong through organization - inspired the establishment of T. K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara. Surrounded by lush greenery and located away from the urban hustle, this humble abode of learning, spreads over 105229 sq. meter of land and comes alive to the sounds of hundreds of young men and women exploring the path of learning and enlightenment. Ever since its origin, the college - fondly called ‘Nangiarkulangara College’- has followed its core philosophy of holistic vision which focuses on the harmony of the intellectual, physical and spiritual elevation.
It now offers 9 under graduate courses in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Economics, B. Com with Tourism and Travel Management, B. Com with Computer Application and English. It also has 3 Post-Graduate Courses in Physics, Chemistry and Commerce. The college practices a well-structured system of mentoring to provide proper guidance to the students not only in choosing the right career path but also to help them to become confident and socially committed individuals.
Since its inception in 1964 the college has not only spearheaded a movement for the uplift of the socially and educationally backward sections of our society but has also created a glorious history of outstanding academic achievements. We are proud of the thousands of Alumni who adorn prominent positions in national and international level. The college keeps abreast its vision, mission and goals in its relationship with the society and the country at large. All its accomplishments and service to the student community are strongly in alignment with the stated vision, mission and goals.
During the past six years, the management of the college has undertaken construction and reorganization works, utilizing own funds as well as grants from the UGC & RUSA. A Gymnasium, installation of UPS enabled solar power system, renovation of the ladies’ toilet and computer lab, setting up of smart class rooms, well furnished and Wi-Fi enabled seminar hall, installation of automated public address system in all classes, Wi-Fi system in the entire campus, Divyanjan toilets, student vehicle parking facility, renovation of Physics, Chemistry and Zoology Laboratories, renovation of department staff rooms and IQAC room, setting up of computerized drug designing Chemistry Lab, a Enterprise Resource Planning system (Necttos mobile app) for teachers, staff and students, are some of the major projects completed. The construction of overhead roofing of the main building, conversion of asbestos roofing to aluminum roofing on two subsidiary building blocks, basketball court are also completed. The infrastructural improvement of the institution is mainly focused on the acquisition of modern electronic equipments meant to enhance the quality and efficiency of knowledge dissemination. The institution proposes to enhance the number of computer systems, software packages, laboratory equipment, reprographic facility and internet accessibility nodes to achieve self sufficiency and productivity.
The academic improvement of the student community is also of prime concern to us. It is envisaged to devise mechanisms to improve the soft skills and technical prowess of our students through various curricular adaptations. Avenues and components for practical application and skill development based on theoretical knowledge acquired in the class room are developed with the help of experts and resource persons in allied fields. A seminar series- DARSHAN –is conducted in every year by involving all departments of the college for enabling the students and teachers acquainted with new avenues of knowledge and skills.
The college is included under section 2(F) and 12 (B) of UGC Act in 1988. More than 1200 students are studying in this institution and in order to support and guide them, we have 57 competent and dedicated faculty members and 17 non-teaching staff. The college was accredited with ―B Grade by the NAAC peer team which visited the institution in June 2016. Our institution has contributed its best towards improving the teaching-learning process, enhancing student support services and infrastructure development. During the last six decades, T.K. Madhava Memorial College has carved a niche for itself among the illustrious cluster of institutions in and around the district.
