The Department of Mathematics of T. K. Madhava Memorial College,Nangiarkulangara has an illustrious history spanning over 50 years. The Department began to function in 1964. Since the College started as a junior college, the Department of Mathematics started with pre-degree first group batch having Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects. The under graduation in the Department began in 1982. Computer Programming was chosen as the elective course. The students pursuing the course, B.Sc. Mathematics offered by the department, can look forward for the development of their logical ability and analytic skills. The semester based syllabi provides a comprehensive survey of areas like analysis, algebra, mathematical modelling using differential equations, mathematical programming and statistics. A lot of emphasis is given to 'hands-on' exposure to modern software such as Sage Math, Python and LaTeX through practical.
The current head of the department is Smt. Renjini.S, who has proven her expertise in academics by organizing a great deal of National and lnternational webinars for students as well as faculty of various institutions. Smt. Sinumol S, Assistant Professor in Mathematics has participated in Workshops on Syllabus Revision organized by the Board of Studies(Pass), University of Kerala in connection with the revision of the syllabus of First Degree Programme in Mathematics under CBCSSin 2017 and also in various National/International Faculty Development Programmes. She also holds the post of Chief Superintendent of Examination.
In the year 2010, for the first time in the history of the Department of Mathematics, a student, Kasinath K, bagged the third rank in B.Sc. Mathematics in University of Kerala. He has scored 99.3 of marks in total with 100 marks both in Mathematics main and Statistics subsidiary.
