The Department of Chemistry, established in 1964, is the largest science department in the College. Over the last six decades, the department has built up its reputation as one among the best in its field as far as imparting education in Chemistry is concerned. The department has the distinction of hosting two undergraduate and a postgraduate programmes in Chemistry. At present, the Department has 7 vastly experienced, well qualified and highly dedicated faculty to mentor students and guide them. One of the faculty is a research guide under the University of Kerala. The teaching faculty are very efficiently supported by dedicated two laboratory staff. The faculty of the department actively participate in the administrative activities of the college.
The Department is committed to excellence in chemistry by imparting an understanding and appreciation of chemistry along with the knowledge, safe laboratory skills and personal integrity necessary for students to be productive members of the society. The Department provides ample opportunity for the students to accumulate a thorough fundamental knowledge of all fields of Chemistry. Meticulous lecture courses in the general areas of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry are conducted regularly in addition to the state-of-the-art laboratory courses which provides hands-on experience to the students at all levels.
The main focus of the department is to instil the necessary spark and provide the scientific impetus so that the students can virtually experience the jiggling and wiggling of atoms and molecules. Our aim is to produce highly sought after and knowledgeable graduates for pursuing careers with academia, industry and government. The Chemistry Association organizes several programs for improving the academic and co-curricular talents of the students.
