National Service Scheme is a Central Government Educational Programme aimed at the personality development of students through community service. It is established to create a strong social awareness in students, it imparts personality development to its members through Camps, Community service and other studies and productive works.
The first NSS unit of our college started functioning in 1981. NSS unit no 39 (A) and 39 (B) are the two units functioning in the College. The exclusive merit regarding our college NSS unit lays upon the wonderful leadership and the brilliant and dedicated students. Ms. Athira Mohan of III BA English got selection in National Integration Camp held at Bangalore City University in 2022 and Ms. Preetha M V, one of our programme coordinators, has bagged the certificate of appreciation in recognition of the exemplary services rendered at NSS during the year 2020-21. Above all we have also secured the award for best volunteer and best NSS unit in various years all among the colleges in the University of Kerala.
Membership of the NSS is open to boys and girls. Students enrolled as NSS Volunteers are expected to work in the scheme for a period of two years. A volunteer who has completed 240 hrs (120hrs X 2yrs) regular activities and seven days special camp in an adopted village is entitled to get NSS Certificate. They are also eligible to get additional weightage for admission in higher studies. The N.S.S. Certificate holders are eligible for 2 % Grace marks at the University Exam for the performing.
